Lead potential and lead score in Leadnote

Lead potential is a rating you set; lead score is a number from 0.0 to 9.9 that Leadnote calculates. See how each works, rename the levels, and sort or filter.

Lead potential tells you how likely a lead is to buy, and you set it yourself. Lead score is a number that Leadnote calculates from 0.0 to 9.9 so you can sort the strongest leads to the top. Use potential to express your judgement and score as a second opinion based on the facts on the record.

Lead potential

Potential has four fixed levels:

Level Meaning
High Very likely to buy
Medium Interested, not decided
Low Early or unlikely (the default for new leads)
Not Relevant Not a fit

Set potential on one lead

  • In the Add a New Lead or Customer or Update a Lead or Customer form, open the Qualifiers tab and use Lead Potential.
  • On the lead page, click the potential chip in the header, or change it from the Qualifiers panel. The window is called Update Lead Potential.
  • On the Card view, a small marker shows "Potential: High" when you hover it, or "not set" if empty. The expanded card has a Potential row.

Set potential on many leads

Select leads, open the bulk bar and choose Update Qualifiers, then pick the Lead Potential tab. See bulk actions.

Rename or recolour the levels

The four levels are fixed so reports stay comparable. The account owner or a manager can change the label and colour of each, or turn a level off for new leads.

  1. Open Settings and select the Tags card, or use Manage Qualifiers. This opens the Qualifiers page.
  2. Select the Lead Potential tab.
  3. Type a new label (up to 40 characters, and each label must be unique), pick a colour, or switch the level between Available and Off.
  4. Select Save. A message confirms "Lead potential saved". Discard changes undoes edits you have not saved.

Each row shows how many leads currently have that level. If you only have view access, the tab says "Only the account owner or a manager can change these labels."

Lead score

The lead score appears:

  • on every card, next to a star, with the tooltip Lead score,
  • as the Lead Score column of the Table view,
  • in the header of a lead page as "Score: 6.4".

It is a number with one decimal place between 0.0 and 9.9. You cannot edit it. Leadnote works it out from four ingredients:

Ingredient What counts Most it can add
Potential High adds 3 points, Medium 2, Low 1. Not Relevant adds nothing. 3 points
Deal size A larger deal adds more, with diminishing returns. A deal in another currency is counted in your account currency when a conversion is available. 2 points
Complete profile 0.3 points for each of email, mobile, organisation, designation and address line 1 that is filled in. 1.5 points
Activity 0.25 points for each timeline entry such as a comment, call, email, stage change, assignment or follow-up. 3 points

The total is capped at 9.9, and in practice the highest score is 9.5. A lead with no potential set is treated like Low.

Leadnote recalculates the score when you edit a lead, add a comment or other activity, or change the deal size. Changes made through the bulk bar do not recalculate it straight away. The score refreshes the next time the lead is edited or gets new activity.

Sort and filter by potential and score

  • Sort by offers Potential and Lead Score.
  • In the filter panel, open Qualifiers. Tick one or more Potential levels and choose a Lead score band: Any score, 0 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 6 or 6 and above. See advanced filters.
  • In the Table view, add or remove the Potential and Lead Score columns with Edit Columns.
  • When you export leads, choose Potential and Lead Score among the fields. See export leads.

How to use them together

  1. Sort by Lead Score and call from the top of the list first.
  2. Filter High potential leads that have no follow-up date, and schedule one for each.
  3. Review Not Relevant leads now and then. If they truly will not buy, archive them. See delete, archive and restore leads.

Potential is one of several qualifiers. For tags and groups see lead tags and qualifiers, and for where a lead is in your process see lead stages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between potential and score?

Potential is your own judgement (High, Medium, Low or Not Relevant) that you set by hand. Score is a number from 0.0 to 9.9 that Leadnote works out for you from potential, deal size, how complete the profile is and how much activity the lead has had.

Can I edit the lead score?

No. The score is calculated. It updates when you edit the lead, add a comment or other activity, or change the deal size.

How many lead potential levels are there?

Four, and they are fixed so reports stay comparable: High, Medium, Low and Not Relevant. The account owner or a manager can rename and recolour them, or switch a level off for new leads, on the Lead Potential tab of the Qualifiers page.

Why does a lead show potential as not set?

New leads start at Low, so a lead shows not set only when no potential was ever recorded on it. Set one from the lead page and it will then match potential filters.
