Leadnote app permissions explained: what and why
See which Android permissions the Leadnote app asks for (notifications, contacts, location, microphone), when, what it never asks for, and how to change them.
Leadnote asks for a permission only at the moment you use a feature that needs it, and the app keeps working if you say no. The runtime permissions are Notifications, Contacts, Location and Microphone, and each one has a clear reason.
What the app asks for and why
| Permission | When Android asks | What it is for | If you say no |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notifications | When you save a follow-up with a reminder (Android 13 and newer). | Alerts for follow-ups and to-dos that are due. | Reminders do not appear. The app still works. |
| Contacts (read only) | When you open Import contacts. | Showing your phone contacts so you can select people to add as leads. | You cannot import contacts. Quick add and the form still work. |
| Location (precise or approximate) | When you tap Check-in/out, Use my location in Map view, or Capture my current location as address. | Recording where a visit happened, filling an address and measuring distance to leads. | Those buttons are unavailable. You can type an address instead. |
| Microphone | When you tap Record audio in a lead's attachments. | A voice note of up to 10 minutes. Recording runs only while the recording screen is open, with a running clock. | You cannot record a voice note. You can still attach files. |
Android lets you choose approximate location instead of precise. Leadnote works with either.
Permissions that install with the app
These are standard and need no prompt:
- Internet and network state, to sync with your account and to know when you are online.
- Vibrate, so a reminder can vibrate like any notification.
- Wake lock, receive boot completed and a short foreground service, used by the background sync and to restore reminders after the phone restarts.
What Leadnote does not ask for
- Camera. Photos are taken with your phone's own camera app, and you can also pick a photo from the gallery.
- Call log, phone state or the dialler role. Calls open your dialler.
- SMS or WhatsApp notification access.
- Writing contacts. "Save to contact" opens the phone's new-contact screen and you save it there.
- Calendar access. "Calendar" actions open your calendar app with the event filled in.
- Storage. Documents and .vcf files are chosen through the system file picker, which gives access to the one file you choose.
- Background location, draw over other apps, exact alarms, usage access, advertising ID.
Voice dictation (the microphone beside notes and comments) uses the phone's own speech recogniser screen, so Leadnote does not need the microphone permission for it. The recogniser app on your phone processes the audio.
Look at your permissions in the app
- Open Settings.
- Tap Leadnote permissions under Application settings.
- Read each card. The status says Allowed, Not allowed, Not asked yet or "Blocked: change it in the system settings".
- Tap Open app settings to jump to the Android page for Leadnote.
The screen footer reads: "Leadnote never changes these settings itself. Denying a permission only turns off the feature that needs it."
The screen also lists Camera and Alarms and reminders for information. Leadnote uses your camera app and normal notifications, so it does not need those permissions itself.
Change a permission in Android
- Press and hold the Leadnote icon, tap App info (or open Settings > Apps > Leadnote).
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap a permission and choose Allow or Don't allow. For Location pick Allow only while using the app.
Or tap App info & system settings in Leadnote's Settings.
Sensitive data on your phone
- Your lead data is stored in an encrypted database on the phone.
- Business card photos you have not saved stay on the phone and are removed when you log out.
- Leadnote does not show ads and does not send your contacts anywhere except the ones you pick.

Frequently asked questions
Does Leadnote read all my contacts?
Only when you open Import contacts and allow Contacts. The list is read on the phone and only the contacts you select are added to your account as leads.
Does Leadnote track my location?
No. It reads your position once, at the moment you tap check-in, check-out, Use my location or Capture my current location as address. It does not request background location.
What if I deny a permission?
Only the feature that needs it stops working. The rest of the app keeps working. You can allow the permission later in the phone settings.
Does Leadnote access my photos, call log or text messages?
No. Photos you attach are chosen through the phone's own picker, and the app does not request call log, SMS or storage permissions.
