How to clone a list in Leadnote (mobile app)

Clone a list from the Leadnote mobile app to start a new list with the same owner and description. Learn what is copied and the web steps to match.

Cloning a list is available in the Leadnote mobile app. It creates a new, empty list that starts with the same owner and description as the original, and you give it a new name. The web app has no Clone List button, so on the web you create a new list and repeat its settings by hand.

Clone a list on the mobile app

  1. Open the app menu and choose Manage Lists.
  2. Find the list you want to copy. Use the search icon if you have many lists.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu on the list's row and choose Clone list.
  4. The Create List form opens with the name filled in as your original name followed by "(copy)", for example "Delhi Expo (copy)". Change the name if you like.
  5. Check the List owner and the Description. They are copied from the original.
  6. Tap save.

The new list appears on your phone at once and shows a "Not sent yet" label if you are offline. When the phone reconnects, Leadnote creates the list on the server.

What a clone copies

Item Copied?
List name Starts as "name (copy)", you can edit it
List owner Yes
Description Yes
Leads No, the new list is empty
Greeting (auto-response) switches No
Assignment rule No, a new list assigns leads to its owner
Custom fields, user access, form design No

A clone therefore saves you the typing of the name and description, but the settings that make a list useful still need to be set up.

Name rules

List names must be unique across your organisation, ignoring capital letters. If your clone's name matches another list you see "A list with this name already exists" and the form does not save. Names can be up to 120 characters, and a name is required.

Match the original on the web

After cloning, open the new list on the web to copy the settings you need. Use this checklist, working from Lists, then Actions, then Edit List:

  1. Distribute leads. Choose the same rule as the original: Specific User, Round-Robin, Round-Robin to a team or Keep Unassigned. See round robin and list assignment.
  2. User Access. Map the same people. Anyone you want in a round robin must be mapped first.
  3. Custom Fields. Map the same fields using Map existing field to this list. See custom fields on a list.
  4. Instant Communication. Switch on the same greeting channels. See auto-responders.
  5. Inquiry Forms. Open the new list's form from Forms and set its fields, text and theme to match. See customise your lead capture form.

Each list has its own form link, so a cloned list gets a brand new form link and QR code. Do not reuse printed material from the original.

Clone a list or clone a lead?

These are different actions:

  • Clone list (mobile app) makes a new empty list from an existing list.
  • Clone on a lead makes a copy of one lead. On the web it is in the lead's menu on the lead detail page; on mobile it is Clone lead in the lead's overflow menu. See add a lead.

When cloning is useful

  • You run the same event every year and want a fresh list each time, with the same owner.
  • You split a large list by region and want each regional list to start with the same owner and description.
  • A campaign repeats monthly and you want a separate list per month so reports compare them.

If the clone does not appear on the web

A clone made offline is sent the next time the phone syncs. If it is missing on the web after you reconnect, keep the app open for a moment while online so it can sync, and read offline mode and how sync works.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Clone List button on the web?

No. Cloning a list is a feature of the Leadnote mobile app. On the web you create a new list and set it up again, or you work from a checklist like the one in this article.

Does cloning copy the leads?

No. The clone starts empty. To copy leads, use the bulk Move to List action or import them again.

Who can clone a list?

Account Owners and Managers, the same people who can create lists. The Clone list option does not appear for other users.

Can I clone a list while offline?

Yes. The clone appears on your phone straight away, marked as not sent yet, and is created on the server when you are back online.
